W Cafe (Woolworths) - Durban
Palm Boulevard 1, Umhlanga Ridge, 4320 Durban
01.02.2010
I agree with Hersalek's review. Gorgeous coffee - even for those who are pregnant and can only order the decaf! Beautiful latte art too.
Cafe Vanille - Durban
Bellevue Road 5, Kloof, Durban
18.07.2009
Gorgeous garden cafe based on French inspiration. Delicious pastries and cakes are baked on the premises and the kitchen serves up gourmet food. Great place for lunch or coffee and cake on a sunny day. Gorgeous garden to sit in, or sit inside among the great decor. There is a little gallery upstairs and a few little associated shops on the property - so check that out after you’ve indulged! A very girly place for moms and daughters or romantic couples!
Bean Bag Bahia - Durban
Beach Road 32, Umdloti, Durban
18.07.2009
Now this is Durban at its best! Sea views, good food, good music, or just a place for a coffee or a drink.
Bean Bag Bahia is part of the Bean Bag Bohemia group, and is the latest addition to the group.
It has the same excellent cuisine and drinks, but the view is just that much better!
Not so well known yet, so check it out before it becomes too busy!
Marco Paulo - Durban
Shop 3 Accord House, 2 Golf Course Drive, Mount Edgecombe, Durban
18.07.2009
Marco Paulo is a funky restaurant serving up delicious Italian/Mediterranean fare at good prices. Good wine list too, and a great vibe.
Mount Edgecombe is not my favourite place in Durban, but this restaurant is worth the drive. Good service, good food and a good atmosphere make Marco Paulo a great place to eat out of the city!
Belpunto - Durban
South Beach Road, Umdloti Centre, Durban
18.07.2009
If you want to take someone out somewhere special, with a view of the ocean, then you can’t beat this restaurant. The entire restaurant overlooks the sea. The menu is Italian but has great seafood and other options. The wine list is good, and wines are decanted in order to release their full flavour.
Definitely worth a visit.
A bit more pricey than usual Durban restaurants, but a great eating experience that makes you love South Africa!
Chilango - Islington
27 Upper Street, Islington, London N1 0PN
18.07.2009
Chilango is a great, hot new place that fills to almost popping on a Friday night! It was refreshing to have an authentic tasting burrito with my fruit flavoured drink (which is bottomless, but I didn’t like it, and wouldn’t have had anymore!). The guacamole was really average - it didn’t have enough tomato and I couldn’t taste nor see any onion or coriander. It feels like you’re eating in KFC or McD’s. Overall, nice to try it out and have something different to the norm, but nothing amazing…
Le Jacquemart - Dijon
32 Rue Verrerie, 21000 Dijon
18.07.2009
Now this is a rare find! In an expensive town of Dijon, we managed to find clean, good accommodation for 33 euro per night, for both of us! And the location is superb - right in the middle of the old town centre - within walking distance to everything of interest in Dijon. We ended up opting for their inhouse breakfast buffet, after first trying a number of other places that turned out to be more expensive, and for less value. The breakfast is 6 euro per person and is a buffet continental. There are rooms for higher prices that also include a private bathroom, so the hotel caters for all budgets. The stairs were quite a killer and were incredibly steep, so if you have lots of heavy luggage, it’s probably best to try get a room downstairs.
There is free internet in the hotel.
We would recommend this hotel and would definitely return!
Tinder Box Espresso Emporium - Islington
N1 Centre, Parkfield Street, London N1 0PS
18.07.2009
The new Tinderbox is bigger and better than the older version. This new location has more space, and there is gorgeous outside seating, or outside viewing with the large windows. You can huddle in your own little “cabin” or sit out with the others as if you are in Wagamamas! Lovely cakes and snacks too. Definitely worth a visit!
Monmouth Coffee Company - Covent Garden
27 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9DD
18.07.2009
This was by far, the best cappuccino I had in London recently. I went to a couple of places loved by my brother - Foyles, Tinderbox, but above all, this coffee shop made me an exquisite cup.
There was latte art, the coffee was not bitter, the milk was thick and creamy, and it didn’t leave me shaking afterwards. Absolutely beautiful!
Le Quentin - Dijon
6 Rue de Quentin, 21000 Dijon
18.07.2009
Bar Quentin is a cute little bar near Les Halles and was the only place we could find that served reasonably priced Cotes du Rhone and other local specialities. The barmen/women are friendly and there is a good vibe. People are relaxed and attracts people from all walks of life. The one night we were there there was a Salsa evening serving mojitos at half price.
Definitely worth a visit after dinner at one of the nearby restaurants.
