Kings Head Pub - Mayfair

10 Stafford Street, London W1S 4RX

10.06.2010 (aggiornata il 20.09.2011)

A decent pub in the heart of Mayfair. Plenty of interesting real ales on and very tasty food. Watch out for city boys!

Brixton Recreation Centre - Brixton

27 Brixton Station Road, Brixton, London SW9 7QF

06.01.2009 (aggiornata il 26.03.2011)

UPDATE 26/03/11

An absolutely disgraceful public facility. Most of the problems stem from the incredibly poor/incompetent management and staff. Consistently rude, nonchalent and generally idiotic bafoons try to run this place but fail in such spectacular fashion that you don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Oh, and don't even bother trying to phone this place. I once called them 27 times in one weekend and nobody ever picked up.

I hate to say it, but privatise the fucker.

_______________________________________________________

I'm "told" Brixton Recreation Centre used to be a multi-story car park (well, that's what my flatmate says). It's kind of believable as this is probably the ugliest building in South London. That being said, the facilities are actually decent. 6 floors of sporting bliss to be precise. Squash, 5-a-side, basketball, badminton, swimming, gymnasium and much, much more. It's also very affordable and there are monthly fees. This definitely is NOT a premium health club (far from it), but it does have a little bit of Brixton charm and it's probably one of the only public sports clubs in south London with 6 squash courts, so i' happy!

MDAD I’m now having to swim here because they shut (and have knocked down!) the lovely old pool at Clapham Manor St. Staff seem to be a bit friendlier now.

gecko2 Britas Empire quality it sounds.

The Sussex - Covent Garden

20 Upper St. Martin's Lane, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JZ

17.08.2010

This pub is a good people watching spot if you can get a seat outside. You're in the heart of Covent garden here, so plenty look at. The interior is fairly generic and don't expect Michelin star cooking. I suppose this pub does what it says on the tin - cold lager, reasonably friendly folk and a standard (perhaps a bit touristy) menu. Speaking of which, think twice about going here in August. This place is heaving during the summer months!

Napket Hanover Square - Mayfair

6 Brook Street, London W1S 1BB

16.08.2010

Not quite as good as the Napket around the corner in Mayfair (no salad bar) but still a decent place to grab a sandwich. It's expensive in here, but i've always found the food to be fresh and tasty. Expect to pay £6-7 for a sandwich and a drink.

Dale Hill Golf Club (The Woosnam Course) - Ticehurst

Dale Hill Hotel, Ticehurst, Wadhurst, East Sussex TN5 7DQ

09.08.2010

Built in 1997, the Ian Woosnam course at Dale Hill is one of the finest 18 hole golf courses in Kent. The course itself is challenging, but not ridiculously so. Expect a number of lengthy, challenging Par 4s and 5s and 3-4 tight, but very pretty Par 3's.

According to Woosnam, "The course has been designed to have the perfect balance - tough enough for the pros and easy enough for the amateurs - and can be enjoyed by all."

A round here on a weekend will set you back £45 and buggies are included in this price. The course is open to the public and booking a tee time is compulsory on this course and definitely advised on the Old Course. Is it worth it? Definitely. I want to come back next weekend!

travelzoo - Covent Garden

90 Long Acre, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9RZ

18.08.2008 (aggiornata il 05.08.2010)

TravelZoo is actually one of my favourite travel agents/travel websites. They send round a weekly newsletter highlight the top deals from all UK holiday and filght providers. These are super exclusive deals which most of the travel agents make a loss on, so you are almost guaranteed a rock bottom price. The site is simple, easy to use and i have never had a performance prob on the site. Why can't all travel agents be like this, huh?

Peter Gowling I must try them as I"m looking for cheap flights to The Philippines for next year. Thanks.

The Whitehouse London - Clapham

65 Clapham Park Road, Clapham Common, London SW4 7EH

05.05.2010 (aggiornata il 05.08.2010)

I think the White House ranks about 3rd or 4th on my list of night spots in Clapham to hit after 11pm. It's not a bad place (they get some pretty decent DJ's in fact), it's just a bit OTT (Oh, and it's far from a "Manhattan Style nightclub).

Anyway, The White House is worth a go if the queues for Lost Society or Artesian Wells are too long - good selection of cocktails and (generally) friendly staff and clientele.

Siany Heh, in my feed: "Check out Andrew Hunter's review of The White House". That made me smile :-)

Andrew Hunter I'm trendy Siany. I go to all the hip spots :)

The Fitzrovia - Fitzrovia

18 Goodge Street, Fitzrovia, London W1T 2QD

Reasonable pub but nothing to write home about. 4 ales on tap - IPA, Landlord, Doom Bar and London Pride. Decent seating area outside (but on a noisy street). Food looks pretty mediocre.

Golden Lion Hotel - Ipswich

10 Cornhill, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 1DB

02.08.2010

This has to be one of the cheapest pubs i've been into (in the UK) in years. £1.45 for a pint of Spitfire. A round of 5 double rum and cokes for £9.80. A full english breakfast for £2.25! Sweet Jesus... it was like going back to 1996.

Friendly staff, but i wish i could say the same for the punters. The price of the drinks obviously attracts the real trash of Ipswich. Be prepared to see fighting and vomiting if you're hear on a Friday night. Don't say i didn't warn you!

layla86 5 drinks for under a tenner.. id happily join in on the punch ups!

Golden Lion Hotel - Ipswich

10 Cornhill, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 1DB

02.08.2010
